Ahh, yes, the big runs are ramping up as I am 8 weeks out from my first go at a 100 mile run race. I had 45 miles on tap Saturday, and was instructed to run it in 6 mile loops to mimic the loop format of of the Moab100 that I'm signed up for.
I want to run Moab with just a hand bottle, since I will see my aid crew (my husband) every 6 miles. I wanted to test to see if I could handle carrying a hand bottle for a long period of time.
I just got my big shipment of FE products so I haven't had much time to use them on little runs, but what they heck, go big! I put a scoop of EFS in my hand bottle and I was off.
My nutrition ended up being one scoop of Grape EFS every lap, except for #6 when I was actually craving a sweeter taste in my bottle. EFS is very light tasting compared to other products that I have tried. I put two scoops in my bottle, drank half my bottle and refilled half way through the loop. I think I might try that on my next long run, two scoops in the bottle, drink half, then refill at the half way point in the loop.
I had 9 scoops total of EFS over 45 miles.
I also snacked on beans, blocks, pretzels, and a few pieces of red vines as I craved them throughout the day. I would like to up the EFS and down the blocks and beans if I can manage it. The EFS is definitely better on my system than the other things.
I had to poo at about 2pm, but really after running for 6 hours, it's to be expected. Not really an issue for me as it wasn't a race setting, just a training setting, and I fully expect and hope to poo at the 100 miler. It was after the red vines, so I'm not really attributing it to anything other than that.
So, EFS passed it's first big test with flying colors. My right arm however is a little sore from holding the hand bottle. I'm thinking of two smaller hand bottles, one in each hand for the next run.
