I'm with Kati and Andy. At least from whenever I've had nutrition issues, they are almost always tied back to either not enough water or too much cafiene. Switching out to Nuun was probably a really smart call and saved the day.

Thanks Kati and Andy. I think both of you are right. Andy, my prerace meals were very similar in both runs and I didn't feel it was a factor.

I vote for the beans as the culprit. In 14 miles, 3 bags of caffinated beans is a lot of extra caffene. I know when I do a caffinated gel or beans it will induce, um, well - a potty stop. I can't imagine 3 bags in 14 miles. Just my guess!!

Great race-Go Sonja. Love the video. Relative to the "incident" did you follow your normal pre run routine. I would imagine with the limited facilities out at the race site you may have changed things up a bit. Seems like you went from 20 oz every 6…

On the way to training for the Moab 100 at the end of March, I wanted to race a 50K in preparation. Last weekend I toed the line at the Moab Red Hot 50K. When I am on my super long runs (like the 45 miler I posted about) I focus purely on Moab 100 p…

EFS drink and LS mixed together sounds like something my boyfriend would dig. He has been mixing gel and powders with a little bit of water for half and full iron tris, but they taste sooo disgusting!
February 10
yup..EFS LS in a water bottle works well too. My preference is to run with a hydration pack that contains only water. In my hand I carry one EFS LS packed with 400 calories and 1,500mg electrolytes..I can run sans aid station for 2-3 hours like this…

Robert, I like this idea! It's a way to carry more. I'm wondering too if I could squirt a little liquid shot in My hand bottle as I go. Your products are great, I'm really having a "easy" time trying them out, and they are making nutrition easier!
February 3
THANKS for the review Sonja..to mix things up you can also consider the EFS liquid shot in the small flask. use approx 100 or 200 calories then top off with water (easier to carry)..at the aid station chug some more water and go.

Ahh, yes, the big runs are ramping up as I am 8 weeks out from my first go at a 100 mile run race. I had 45 miles on tap Saturday, and was instructed to run it in 6 mile loops to mimic the loop format of of the Moab100 that I'm signed up for. I wan…

Man, that Solvang weather looks dreamy right now. Solvang + FE = Mmmmm You must convince CV to let the AGers come out to train there!

Glad you enjoyed them Jamie, you should try it out! Robert, good luck with the second three days, I thought they were a lot easier from a logistics point of view. I hope you don't have any issues at all, it seems like most people don't!

Hey Sonja.....great report!! I go back on the second 3 day GF diet tomorrow. Hope I don't have the GI problems you were having. I guess you won't be going GF for IMCDA, good to learn that now!!

Moab 50K, my first nutritional stumble

On the way to training for the Moab 100 at the end of March, I wanted to race a 50K in preparation. Last weekend I toed the line at the Moab Red Hot 50K. When I am on my super long runs (like the 45 miler I posted about) I focus purely on Moab 100 prep. I practice nutrition, pacing, time management.

But when you race...well, things are different. I am planning on the 100 miler to be a chore in execution. Keeping the heart rate low, never ever loosing control, ticking off the

45 mile run, first time with EFS

Ahh, yes, the big runs are ramping up as I am 8 weeks out from my first go at a 100 mile run race. I had 45 miles on tap Saturday, and was instructed to run it in 6 mile loops to mimic the loop format of of the Moab100 that I'm signed up for.

I want to run Moab with just a hand bottle, since I will see my aid crew (my husband) every 6 miles. I wanted to test to see if I could handle carrying a hand bottle for a long period of time.

I just got my big shipment of FE products so I haven't had muc… Continue

GF test Complete

Sunday marked the completion of my GF test. I did the full 3 days on, 6 days off, and then what turned out to be 4 days back on, as I remained GF the entire day of my race. I raced Sunday to see if I noticed any changes, or improved performance.

The last two day of GF were interesting. I definitely got down how to eat, and it wasn't really an issue to stay GF. My headaches did not reappear. My stomach was however not happy. I was pretty nervous going into the race that I would have to stop for… Continue

2 days into second GF session (post 6 days off)

A little recap: I did 3 days GF, then 6 days back to my normal diet, and now I am back GF until my snowshoe race this coming Sunday. The first 3 days my main "issues" were headaches, and my GI system seemed to be aggravated to switch over (timing was off, some bloating/gas).

Now I'm back at it again, and wow, it's been a completely different story. I've made a few changes this time compared to last. Last time I didn't quite know what to do for carbs and I think I just cut out the obvious bread,… Continue

Hey Sonja, likewise... nice to see you here. I'm sure we will bump paths again at one or more of the Rev3 events. Rock on, girl!
